  • Slate and tile roofs:
    • Roof hooks or plates are installed under the tiles or slates to securely anchor the mounting rails.
    • Rails are attached to the hooks, providing a stable structure for the panels.
    • Solar panels are then clamped onto the rails.
  • Concrete, wooden, or steel roofs:
    • Rails are mounted on hangers or brackets that are drilled directly into the roof structure.
    • Panels are clamped to the rails as usual.

Ground Mounted Solar Panels

Ground-mounted solar panels are typically installed on ballasted or framed systems directly on the land. These systems share many features with flat-roof mounts but are designed for open-ground conditions.

  • Frames and rails are secured to the ground using ballast weights or foundation posts, providing a stable base for the panels.
  • Panels are then mounted onto the rails or brackets, usually at a tilted angle to maximise sunlight exposure.
  • Side plates or wind deflectors are often added to protect the array from wind uplift and ensure long-term stability.
  • The spacing, tilt, and ballast distribution are carefully calculated to avoid shading, maintain structural integrity, and optimise performance.

Pole Mounted Solar Panels

Pole mounted solar panels are elevated above ground level to provide power to appliances that are usually located off the ground, such as sensors, CCTV cameras, or traffic lights as shown below. Elevating panels also helps reduce the risk of theft or accidental damage.
